My daughter is often in a battle to fight falling asleep. She does not want to give up on the action going on beyond her bedroom door. I have utmost respect for the determination of that little toddler. She just will not give up to stay awake at times. At times I wonder how that determination in her spirit will guide her through life. It will be interesting to watch as she grows. Watching her on the video monitor when she is trying with everything in her power to stay awake, reminds me of how frustrated we may become when we are unable to let go. There are circumstances, relationships and events in our lives that we want to control so badly. It is easy to get wrapped up in it all that we are fighting with ourselves and sometimes others. The tension we can cause by our own stubbornness is most often more harmful than we realize.
I watch my daughter fight and fight and fight, only to find herself so over tired. My mind thinks, just go to sleep and you will feel better, just let go, give up already. As her battle wears down, I watch the moment she finally releases her tension, lays down, and peacefully drifts off. When she wakes, she is so happy and refreshed. She always has to tell me that she slept for some random number of hours – it is pretty cute.
Simply put, when are we going to realize that there are times we need to just release, let go, and let life take its course. There are some situations and relationships that are out of our control. What a refreshing moment when we let the chips fall where they need to and we let it be what it needs to be. At the end of the day, it is all in God’s hands if you allow Him the control of the situation and relationships that are causing you so much strife.
Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
